Two Testaments Secrets of the Cross Trilogy Book 2 (Audible Audio Edition) Elizabeth Musser Kirsten Potter Oasis Audio Books

Love for war's victims keeps them apart. Will love for each other see them through? The slightest spark will ignite an explosion. And the tinderbox of broken political and racial relations in 1960s France and Algeria provides plenty of kindling.
In the midst of the chaos, Gabriella Madison guards the orphans in her care while battling jealousy with Anne-Marie Duchemin, David's former flame who has recently arrived in Castelnau, France. Even more problems arise when the townspeople start expressing their discomfort with the multicultural orphanage. They want it shut down...permanently.
Meanwhile, David is trapped on the other side of the Mediterranean, caught in the turmoil of a country gone mad. He seeks a way to guard his life, and at the same time, protect the refugees he came to help. But even if he accomplishes his mission, can he get out of Algeria alive?
Two Testaments Secrets of the Cross Trilogy Book 2 (Audible Audio Edition) Elizabeth Musser Kirsten Potter Oasis Audio Books
I haven't read a book by Elizabeth Musser that I don't like. She is an excellent writer, there's no doubt about that. Having read the first two books of this series, I have learned a lot about the history of the war in Algeria....which I had no previous knowledge of. The characters are engaging and well developed. My only objection to this series, is that it IS a series rather than stand alone novels. I rebel somewhat at having to buy three books to tell a complete story, but many authors do this, it seems. By the time I finished this second book a few weeks ago, I actually had grown somewhat weary of the whole thing and haven't bought the 3rd book of the series. Perhaps I will, but have no desire to so far. This is no reflection on the quality of the writing or the storyline itself, but just the need for something on a different theme. All of the books in the series are quite lengthy, and I was experiencing a bit of plot fatigue by the end of book two. Just my personal feeling, which might not be shared by many other reviewers or readers.Product details

Two Testaments Secrets of the Cross Trilogy Book 2 (Audible Audio Edition) Elizabeth Musser Kirsten Potter Oasis Audio Books Reviews
I loved this followup book to the "Two Crosses" novel. Not only was it a wonderful and realistic story, but the history of the countries of France and Algeria and the struggles of the Christians during that time period was very informative to me. I would recommend reading "Two Crosses" first with the followup of "Two Testaments." Loved this writer and these novels.
This was a free Digital E-Book as a gift for subscribing to (David C. Cook Books) related to scripture that I stumbled upon through using the (YouVersion Bible App.) I haven't read it yet but am looking forward too.
I enjoyed all three books of this trilogy. It's been a while since I read them but I would recommend them since I remember thinking they were all very good. Sorry I can't be more specific as too long ago.
This is a period in the history of our world that I was not familiar with. I very much enjoyed this book and learning of the struggle that took place. The characters in this story are engaging and captured my attention from beginning to end. Now
I need to read the other two books in the trilogy.
Did not even know this was a trilogy book when I started reading, but regardless I loved every word and every character. The history of Algeria I did not know, so it was quite enlightening for me. I really liked the way the author develops the characters. Using several nationalities, religions, and pulling it all together with love and God.
Being an American born and raised in California, and now living in Idaho, I was unaware of the conflicts in Algeria. And being fairly recent history, that fact is not very surprising. I also know next to nothing about what the whole Vietnam conflict was about and why America was involved. Before you judge me as an ignoramus, a conversation I had with a British couple who were born and raised just after WWII showed that their experience of knowing WWII history in their youth was the same as mine with Vietnam. The generation who lived the war doesn't want to talk about it or discuss it with their children and students. In this light, Two Crosses A Novel (Secrets of the Cross Trilogy) and Two Testaments A Novel (Secrets of the Cross Trilogy) are phenomenal books in that they elucidate important recent and ongoing history, are well written and demonstrate the healing power of the Gospel within realistic, multi-faceted relationships. With the rise of fanatical Islam and the many conflicts between European cultures and Islamic cultures, these books - by divulging the history of one hot spot - serve to make people aware that the various conflicted areas of the world are made up of real people with real needs and differing worldviews, which leads to conflict.
Unfortunately, I can't give this book 5 stars. While I thoroughly enjoyed reading this novel, at times it did drag for me. It seems to me that the narrative could have been written a bit tighter.
But the clincher that made me drop a star was a scene between an Arab and a Harki regarding forgiveness. There is no forgiveness in Islam. (Do correct me if I'm wrong on that point!!) It seems to me that it would have been incredibly difficult for these two characters to come to the point of asking for and giving forgiveness. Difficult, but not impossible. This scene made me realize that we see the behavior of the Arabs in this book and a little bit of why they behave as they do, but we get next to nothing of their deeper worldview. I would have liked to have had a deeper look into Islamic culture in this book it's differing worldview with its subsequent beliefs and values. Understanding of the Muslim/Islamic/Arabic mind is sorely lacking in European descendants such as myself. I am currently reading The Crescent Through the Eyes of the Cross Insights from an Arab Christian, through which I am gaining this understanding. I highly recommend it.
Elizabeth Musser's books are absolutely worth reading. And if you like drawn out interpersonal relationships, you'll love these books even more than I did.
The saga continues in Two Testaments! If you have not read Book 1, Two Crosses then stop and read it first. We pick up in Book 2, shortly after where things ended in Book 1. There is certainly plenty of drama, suspense and spiritual food to keep the pages turning. This is not a light read but is a good read. I enjoyed learning about these places and the things that happened in history, sad as it may be.
The characters and plot will pull you in and open your eyes to things not just historically or morally but also to introspection. As the characters struggle with learning that God's ways are not ours. And even when our circumstances seem so dim and horrible, God is on His throne and He is good. Waiting on Him is hard but it is something worthwhile. But most of all looking to the Person of God and at His love. God does bring beauty from ashes, He heals and redeems. God is the One who does the impossible and His own story is a love story. A story about a God and His people... All this to say that if you are looking for a deeper read and one that will minister to you and feed your mind, as well as your soul - this is a good book for you!
